Plugin Update – March 25, 2013

In our ongoing attempt to find a workable publication schedule, this is the first episode in a new series of alternating Monday Plugin Updates. Every other Monday, USSN News is sent to our mailing list subscribers. Starting with this issue of Plugin Update, the non-list Mondays will be Update Mondays.

Plugin Update Announcement

Over the next several weeks, we will be rolling out some new standard plugins that will be added to all USSN client sites. Most important is the Login Security Solution, which will be added to our Security Suite. LSS blocks a variety of attack types, monitors logins, and enforces password strength. Before your site is updated, you will be contacted by a USSN Customer Service representative, who will schedule the update and review the password strength rules that are being implemented to enhance overall system security.

Responsive Sliders

We have been thinking lately about responsive design, particularly when it comes to using sliders for organizing and showcasing content. They not only can be used for images, but also for general content and website navigation. We are evaluating two new tools that make it easy to add attractive sliders to your site. A complete review of Soliloquy, a premium plugin with an impressive collection of add-ons, and Matcha Labs' Meta Slider, will be included in a future newsletter. If you have used a slider and would like us to include it in our evaluations, please email us.

WP-IT

Another area of interest for us at USSN is WP-IT … which we define as WordPress-based Information Technology. That includes using WordPress for a variety of business functions that extend well beyond basic blogging or web publishing. It includes things like Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Invoicing, Scheduling, and Property Management. Our next issue will include the first in a series of articles about business tools that enable WordPress to do more than you might think!

We love plugins, and use lots of them. The benefits of added security and productivity make the small amount of system overhead they add well worth the cost!

There are SO many great plugins that finding the right ones can be a bit daunting. Do you have a favorite plugin that you’d like to share? Feel free to tell us about it.
